Score a hole in one with delegates with new golf packages in Wales.

Wednesday May 2nd 2007

Be among the first to play the 2010 Ryder Cup Experience course, or combine a championship golfing trip with a luxury stay in a castle – these are two packages that have been launched to attract meetings and conference delegates to Wales.

The Celtic Manor Resort has launched a special preview package – The Ryder Cup Experience – that will offer delegates a fantastic opportunity to play the dramatic holes of the new Ryder Cup course, for a limited time only.

The new 7,493-yard, par-71 course has taken six years to make, at a total cost of £16 million. Delegates will be the first to play the course, which has been designed and constructed for the top tour stars from Europe and America who will lock horns at Celtic Manor in three years time.

The Ryder Cup course features nine brand new holes and nine from the former Wentwood Hills, which have been substantially remodelled since hosting the Celtic Manor Wales Open between 2000 and 2004. Earth works began in 2004 and – at the height of construction in 2005 – there were 110 people working on the site. In total, more than a million tons of earth have been shifted in its creation

The Ryder Cup Experience package comprises a ‘valet golf’ service that includes allocated parking spaces on arrival, personal lockers, complimentary range balls, transfers to and from the first tee and 18th green, and shoe cleaning. Also included is a hearty breakfast and a two-course lunch.

Tea times will be restricted to just 12 fourballs a day from 4 July to 30 September at a cost of £600 per fourball.

Meanwhile, Golf in Style Wales has been launched to offer delegates the chance to play some of Wales’s championship courses – combined with some of the country’s most memorable accommodation choices.

Delegates can choose from four different packages, where they stay in either a castle, a vineyard, a boutique hotel or at Portmeirion – the Italian-styled village famed for the filming of the hit seventies TV series, The Prisoner. They then get to play some of the most tempting courses in Wales, including Royal Porthcawl, Royal St David’s and the National, while also enjoying added extras such as wine or whisky tasting.

Pat Crimp, Head of Events, Sponsorship and Business Tourism at Visit Wales, said:

“ Wales is home to the 2010 Ryder Cup and many championship golf courses. When this is combined with some of the best and unusual accommodation, it is easy to see why it is a natural choice for event organisers looking to put together an exciting delegate package with a difference.”
